About

Lisa in Sierra cropped.JPG

After two decades in Silicon Valley, I now live in the village of Inverness, California, overlooking Tomales Bay on the edge of beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore.

I frequently hit the road in search of stories and have reported from San Francisco research centers and Central Valley farmlands to Sierra Nevada wildfires.

I’m proud to be a longtime daily journalist with The San Jose Mercury News and have contributed to Bay Nature, National Geographic and other publications. I was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize with The Bay Area News Group/Chico Enterprise-Record team for coverage of the devastating Camp Fire in Paradise. I’ve won a variety of awards, including Columbia University's Oakes Award for Distinguished Environmental Journalism and the Scripps Howard's Meeman Award for Environmental Reporting.

A graduate of Duke University with a degree in biology, I lecture at the University of California Science Communication Program.

When not working, I can be found backpacking or skiing with friends and family.
